Professor Jarlath Bolger graduated from RCSI in 2009, and was subsequently awarded his PhD in 2014. He undertook the Irish surgical training scheme in general surgery, with a subspecialist interest in oesophagogastric surgery, and was awarded his intercollegiate fellowship in 2020. From 2021-2024 he undertook a comprehensive Upper-GI fellowship in University of Toronto and University Health Network, Toronto. In June 2024 he commenced as a Consultant General/Upper GI Surgeon in Beaumont Hospital, and an Associate Professor of Surgery in Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. His clinical interests are in minimally invasive and robotic assisted surgery for malignant and benign conditions of the oesophagus and stomach. He has a keen interest in surgical research, and was the founding chairperson of the Irish Surgical Research Collaborative. His translational work focusses on understanding responses to neoadjuvant therapies in oesophagogastric cancers, and mechanisms of metastasis
